In this painting, I planned to capture Otter Cliffs in Acadia National Park in the fragile hush before sunrise, when night has not yet fully released its hold on the coast. The towering granite cliffs rise from the Atlantic like ancient walls, their rugged faces touched by the first rays of a new day. A thin band of pale color gathers along the horizon, hinting at the sun still hidden beyond the sea. The atmosphere is carrying the quiet expectancy of a new day. In this suspended moment, the world feels held between darkness and light—a fleeting stillness filled with anticipation, where the first promise of dawn is felt more than seen.
This piece was created as a meditation on the quiet strength found in letting go. The water seems to glow from within, its translucent face revealing the beauty found in motion rather than resistance. Sunlight catches the spray as it is flung into the air, scattering countless sparkling droplets that drift like fleeting jewels before returning to the sea.
Both powerful and graceful, the wave embodies the paradox of surrender. Its breaking is not a defeat, but a quiet act of trust in the rhythm of something greater. It rises in strength, then releases itself without resistance, yielding to the current that has carried it from the beginning. In that graceful surrender, the wave reveals that true strength is not found in holding on, but in letting go. It reminds us that the greatest beauty often emerges when we release our need for control and trust God's greater purpose, allowing Him to carry us exactly where we were always meant to go.
In this painting I wanted to capture the liquid gold of the sunset as it dissolves into the rhythm of the sea. The intricate texture of the waves catches and scatters the fading glow, creating a tapestry of luminous movement that shifts with every ripple. The sunset stretches into fine ribbons of light that weave through the waves, creating the illusion of molten gold stitched into the ocean itself. Rich with texture and movement, this painting captures a moment that exists for only an instant—when the sea seems to gather the last light of day and hold it gently before night falls.

This painting explores the quiet irony of a lighthouse standing beneath the brilliance of the Milky Way. Marshall Point Lighthouse faithfully casts its familiar beam across the dark Atlantic, yet it is the heavens that become the true source of wonder. Arcing across the sky in countless stars and rivers of light, the Milky Way outshines the lantern below, reminding us that nature's greatest illumination has always existed far beyond our own. The painting invites viewers to pause between earth and sky, where the steadfast beacon and the infinite cosmos share the same horizon. In that stillness, the lighthouse becomes a humble companion to God's true nightlight—a breathtaking reminder of His creation, quietly lighting the world long before any beacon was built.
